Hope's Cafe Christmas Gifts
In keeping with our Clelands tradition of donating gifts, this year we are supporting Hope’s Café - a joint project between Uniting Communities and the Clayton Wesley Uniting Church in Norwood.
They provide assistance to the unemployed, homeless, marginalised and refugees. People with virtually nothing - we were told of one little boy who stayed away from school because his family could not afford $2 for a plastic ball which all children needed for a science experiment day.
Hope's Cafe offer English lessons, a community garden, op shop, Welfare Rights assistance, healthy meals on a ‘donate what you can afford basis’. Many of their clients are families living in cars - one of the services they offer is that a few times a week people can come and cook and eat with others in a communal situation.
This organisation receives little, if any, funding - everything is donated by generous people.
By supporting Hope’s Café with our gifts, our partners and staff hope we have contributed to making Christmas a little better for these families.
